Epiq AI uses protocols to define how documents are searched and reviewed within a Collection. Protocols are configured at the Collection level and determine what search terms or tags are available to reviewers. Epiq AI supports two protocol types: search protocols and review protocols.

Search protocols

A search protocol contains a list of search terms associated with a Collection. These terms help teams identify and isolate relevant documents. Search protocols can be used to:
  • Generate search term reports.
  • Create subsets of documents for review based on defined search terms.

Supported file formats

You can add a search protocol using one of the following formats:
  • Excel (XLSX)
  • CSV (CSV)

Review protocols

A review protocol defines the tags and tagging guidance that reviewers use when coding documents. When a review protocol is applied:
  • Tags from the protocol appear in the tagging panel.
  • Tagging instructions are available to reviewers while annotating documents.
  • The protocol is viewable directly from the document annotation interface.
This helps ensure consistent tagging and review decisions across reviewers.

Supported file formats

You can add a review protocol using one of the following formats:
  • Word (DOCX)
  • PDF (PDF)
