The Ask AI feature in Epiq AI allows you to ask questions in natural language about your case data in a secure environment. Ask AI is designed to complement traditional search and analytics workflows by synthesizing and contextualizing information from the most relevant materials, rather than replacing document search or exhaustive review. The tool searches case documents and background knowledge, such as protocols and entities, and returns data-grounded responses with citations in seconds. Ask AI uses Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) architecture. This approach retrieves and analyzes the most relevant documents and generates responses that include citations and references for validation. Because RAG emphasizes relevance and context over exhaustive search, Ask AI does not review every document in a collection. This means that the most relevant and best contextual matches appear, but every match might not appear due to lesser relevance or context.

Best Practices

Follow these best practices when using Ask AI:
  • Validate and fact‑check all responses against the cited source documents before using them for legal analysis or decision‑making.
  • Review cited sources thoroughly, not just the generated summary.
  • Ask questions in multiple ways to uncover additional details or perspectives.
  • Avoid speculative or hypothetical prompts, which may reduce response quality.
  • Use focused conversations. Start a new chat when changing topics to keep results contextually grounded.
  • Treat responses suggesting something did not occur with caution and perform additional analysis to confirm.
  • Do not rely on Ask AI responses as final factual determinations without corroboration from underlying documents.
  • Iterate on your questions to refine results and uncover new insights.
Iteration plays a key role in maximizing the value of Ask AI. Rephrasing the prompt or asking follow-up queries helps you explore different angles and retrieve more complete information. This approach supports deeper analysis and ensures that you do not overlook relevant content.
