# Upload metadata

Epiq AI can upload metadata to a collection as an overlay or it can append new metadata fields while keeping all existing ones.

To upload metadata, complete the following procedure.

1. In the **Project space** menu, select **Collections**.
2. Select a collection.
3. Select **Data uploads**.
4. Select **Create an upload**.
5. Select **Metadata** and choose one of the following:
   * **Overlay metadata**. Upload new metadata while replacing existing metadata.
   * **Append metadata**. Append new metadata while keeping all existing metadata.
6. Enter an **Upload Name** and select a **Date Format**.
7. Upload your load file (DAT or CSV). You can find your load file under the DATA folder or at the top level of the drive.
8. Select **Next**.
9. Validate the field mapping and select **Upload**.
