# Upload annotations

Epiq AI can upload annotations to a collection as an overlay or it can append new annotations while keeping all existing ones.

To upload annotations, complete the following procedure.

1. In the **Project space** menu, select **Collections**.
2. Select a collection.
3. Select **Data uploads**.
4. Select **Create an upload**.
5. Select **Annotations** and choose one of the following:
   * **Overlay annotations**. Upload new annotations while replacing existing annotations.
   * **Append annotations**. Append new annotations while keeping all existing annotations.
6. Enter an **Upload Name**.
7. Click to upload your CSV or XLSX files with document tag information and select **Next**.
8. Validate the field mapping and select **Upload**.
